EHS students remain the top priority for all of us here at Elizabeth High School. To best meet the needs of each student, maintain an open and transparent learning environment, and to empower each student to prepare for the future following high school, I do have high expectations for each student. To achieve these goals, the classroom must be a place of order, discipline, and learning. The following expectations and classroom procedures are established.
IMPORTANT UPDATE: EHS Late Work Policy Effective January 1, 2025
Unless previous arrangements have been made, all work not turned in on its due date is considered late if the student was present in class.
Late work turned in one class day late will receive up to 75% of the total possible points for the assignment.
Late work turned in to the teacher by the end of the unit, or within two weeks of the original due date (whichever is shorter) will receive up to 50% of the total possible points on the assignment. After that, a zero is recorded for the assignment.
There may be exceptions to this policy if the student emails the teacher before the assignment is due and explains any extenuating circumstances causing the student to miss the due date.
Regarding long-term projects or assignments, given three or more weeks before the due date, late work will not be accepted.
Classroom Core Values - Students must adhere to core values in their decisions, choices, and actions.
Honesty
Accountability
Integrity
Respect
Make every day a good H.A.I.R day!
Cell Phone Policy - Cell phones are NOT allowed in the classroom
Mr. Dunham's classroom is a NO cell phone classroom. If a student brings an electronic device, including a cell phone that is not issued by EHS to class, it will be confiscated and held until the end of the school day (3:20 PM) and the student will receive a ZERO for the assignment, exam, or other activities scheduled for the session. Signs are posted when entering the classroom and within the classroom. Exceptions approved by the school nurse for medical reasons will be honored. Parents must contact the school admin office for emergencies and the message will be delivered to the student.
This policy is intended to provide all students with an equal, respectful, non-disruptive, and positive learning environment. Cell phones are a distraction to everyone and inappropriate for classroom use. Only EHS issued devices (i.e. Chromebooks) are approved for use during class.
Student expectations:
- Show absolute respect for yourself, the classroom, your peers, and the learning environment
- Exhibit the core values of Honesty, Accountability, Integrity, and Respect in all your work, conduct, decisions, and behavior.
- Be on time and prepared for class
- Know and fully understand the emergency evacuation procedures and the lockdown procedures. We will review them often.
- Complete assignments by the due date (late assignments are not accepted)
- Ask for help
- Support your peers
- Do your best - success will follow
Classroom Procedures:
- Class begins upon entering the classroom, as do the class policies and expectations.
- Take your seat. Only students who are seated and ready to begin class are on time.
- Turn in homework, pick up graded assignments from the class block tray, and return to your seat.
- Begin the warm-up (bell ringer) exercise, usually a daily journal entry.
- Attendance is taken immediately after the tardy bell rings. Those not in their assigned seats are absent or tardy.
- Review of warm-up exercise
- Students are quiet with their attention to the teacher, speaker, or task.
- Raise your hand to share information or to ask a question. This prevents us from speaking over each other.
- During class and activities, when I say, “Stop please” and raise my hand, students will turn their attention to me, stop talking, and wait for further instruction.
- Students must sign out and in when they leave the classroom for any reason. This is for your safety.
"Students are at the heart of everything we do."
